Qwest Communications Launches New Customer-Focused Brand Advertising Campaign Featuring Employees

DENVER, September 30, 2002 ? Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) today launched a brand advertising campaign featuring Qwest employees who embody the company?s commitment to the ?Spirit of Service? for its customers. The launch of this campaign signals a commitment by the company to operationalize and communicate service initiatives that improve the customer experience. As part of the new campaign, Qwest also has changed its tagline to ?Spirit of Service.?

?The ?Spirit of Service? message summarizes our employees? passion to provide customers with best-in-class service and will guide us as we work toward this goal ,? said Joan H. Walker, Qwest?s senior vice president of corporate communications. ?We have introduced a company-wide plan and process that will align our operations and communications and bring to life the experience our customers want and need from their telecommunications provider. Like the ad says, ?Watch us now.??

The new advertising and branding campaign will feature TV spots in all 14 states in Qwest?s local-service region and will be available on Qwest?s Web site, www.qwest.com.

?This is not some marketing hype, it?s an obvious shift in the company?s culture,? said Jim Cadwallader, a Qwest network operations supervisor who appears in these ads and has seen numerous corporate changes in his 30 years of service for Qwest, U S WEST and Northwestern Bell. ?I feel like we?re getting back to the core issues, back to the things that really matter. And I think people on the street sense it too.?

The ?Spirit of Service? message was inspired by a painting ? based on a photograph ?commissioned around 1900, that depicts a technician, Angus A. McDonald, in snowshoes repairing a telephone line during the Great Blizzard of 1888. The spirit and determination exhibited by the repairman doing his job despite the adverse conditions is the driving force behind Qwest?s new campaign.

Qwest also plans to launch additional new advertising as the company re-enters the long-distance market in its local-service region.
