Local Calling Area Expanded In Billings

BILLINGS, Mont., August 15, 2002 ? Qwest Communications International, Inc. (NYSE: Q) announced today that the local calling area around Billings is being expanded to include additional communities served by Project Telephone Company and Triangle Telephone Cooperative. It will no longer be necessary to dial 1+, and long-distance charges will no longer apply, when placing telephone calls in more than a dozen area communities.

The Triangle communities include: Broadview, Molt, Rapelje and Reedpoint. The Project communities are Absarokee, Belfry, Crow Agency, Fort Smith, Huntley, Lodge Grass, Pompey's Pillar, Worden, and Wyola.

Currently, all Qwest customers in the Billings local calling area who subscribe to a flat rated (unlimited usage) access line are assessed a $2.44 monthly Extended Areas Service (EAS) charge. There will be no change in this monthly charge as the result of the expansion of the local calling area on August 14, 2002.

?Now, customers in and around Billings do not have to worry about long-distance charges when calling these neighboring communities,? said Rick Hays, Qwest vice president of policy and law for Montana. ?This is great news for consumers and businesses alike.?

Customers with Speed Calling, customer-programmable Call Forwarding, or any other automatic dialing equipment (fax machines, computers, alarm monitors) or call routing systems, may need to reprogram their equipment with the implementation of these new calling areas.

?This expanded service area has been in the works for a long time and I?m glad it is moving forward to completion. This enhancement in local telephone service will benefit Billings and all the surrounding communities and especially the businesses,? said Jay Stovall, Montana Public Service Commissioner for the Billings and eastern Montana district.
