GLOBALconect Deploys Secured Information Repository and Collaboration Applications Using SAVVIS’ Virtualized IT Infrastructure

ST. LOUIS, MO, January 04, 2005 — SAVVIS Communications (NASDAQ: SVVS), a leading global IT utility, today announced that GLOBALconect, a secure information repository for law firms, government, corporations and insurance agencies, has implemented SAVVIS’ virtualized managed utility services to better serve its customers and drive business growth. Under the new agreement, GLOBALconect has deployed the virtual server and storage elements of SAVVIS’ virtualized utility services platform to power GLOBALconect’s web-based service.

Powered by iCONECT® technology, the market leader in web-based collaboration and case-management software for counsel, GLOBALconect is a fully managed hosted service that provides secure management of large databases of legal documents, allowing remote users and multi-party groups to collaborate in real-time on the same document databases, transcripts, emails, document images, and other litigation information. GLOBALconect customers include the world’s top law firms, the U.S. Government, Fortune 500 corporations, medical firms and insurance agencies.

Since 1999, iCONECT technology has been a web-based software solution that required custom development at each customer site. GLOBALconect, LLC was formed to offer this application as a fully-managed, hosted service delivered to business and government organizations with a need for secured document archiving and retrieval and cross-functional collaboration. By migrating to SAVVIS’ virtualized utility services, GLOBALconect gains a 24/7 global IT infrastructure and support structure, cost savings over in-house services, improved flexibility by being able to scale up or down their IT services as the business demands, and a shift from up-front capital expenses for hardware to a predictable payment stream for IT functions as they are used.

Utilized by GLOBALconect customers in both the U.S. and Europe, SAVVIS’ virtualized IT infrastructure allows GLOBALconect to extend IT operations that are critical to businesses that rely on confidential or proprietary data such as: multiple back-ups, high levels of security, Internet access to data, and compliance with all applicable auditing standards, including SAS70.

“Managing confidential information such as depositions, trial transcripts, and attorney work products requires a careful balance of the highest level of security and tremendous flexibility, since firms have immediate needs for managing massive amounts of highly sensitive data,” said Ian Campbell, Principal and Director of Business Development, GLOBALconect. “SAVVIS’ virtualized utility services deliver the IT capacity our applications need, when we need it. SAVVIS’ end-to-end solution model provides us the support we need to offer iCONECT applications as a utility service to a global market.”

New technology and utility services are fueling the dramatic growth of software as a service. According to IDC, U.S. spending on software as a service topped $3 billion in 2003, growing 32% over the previous year, and will reach $9 billion by 2008.

“Increasingly independent software vendors are looking to grow their business by offering their software as a service, said Vince DiMemmo, Senior Vice President, Product and Marketing for SAVVIS. “The scalability, performance and cost benefits of SAVVIS’ utility platform can be a significant competitive advantage in the software as a service market, allowing ISVs to more effectively manage their IT capacity and align their IT expense with the growth of their business.”

Leveraging more than 10 years of development, SAVVIS has virtualized its core offerings to encompass every piece of the IT infrastructure – network, hosting, security, storage, and compute – enabling it to deliver a broad suite of managed utility services. These on-demand services, in conjunction with SAVVIS’ integration of carrier class hardware and automated management systems, are particularly well-suited for intensive compute, storage, and security requirements.
