HERNDON, VA, -- July 14, 2003 – SAVVIS Communications (NASDAQ: SVVS), a leading global managed IP services provider, today announced it has been selected to provide managed hosting services to CinemaNow, Inc., the world leader in IP-based video-on-demand distribution, with core operations in content, technology and distribution.
The contract marks another step in SAVVIS’ expansion into the media and entertainment sector, from its traditional base of providing managed global networking services to the financial services industry, including banks, brokerage firms and electronic trading networks, as well as a diverse range of professional services firms, retail establishments, healthcare and manufacturing companies.
CinemaNow holds the exclusive Internet distribution rights to the most extensive and comprehensive library of feature films available on-demand via the public Internet and private broadband networks. Its film library contains over 3,000 feature-length films from more than 125 licensors, including 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., MGM, Lions Gate Entertainment, Lot 47 Films, Vanguard Cinema and Visionbox Media.
CinemaNow distributes films via its Web site, www.cinemanow.com, which is accessed by more than one million unique users per month, on both a pay-per-view and subscription basis. CinemaNow is the only major IP-based distributor offering films in both streaming and download formats.
“Our business is dependent on our website working 24/7. As a result, we require the very highest levels of guaranteed access to the site, and a corresponding level of service and support. In our search for a service provider that meets our challenging criteria, SAVVIS was the clear choice,” said Bruce David Eisen, Executive Vice President, CinemaNow.
“Guaranteed access to a company’s Web site and the associated content is critical for most businesses today, and this is particularly true in the media and entertainment markets” said Jack Finlayson, president and chief operating officer of SAVVIS. “The bar is raised even further when the Web site is the exclusive medium by which the company’s products or services are distributed. In the case of an on-line content distributor like CinemaNow, no service means no business.”
“SAVVIS appreciates this paradigm,” Finlayson continued. “Our heritage is as a company created to solve a unique and complex business problem -- how to deliver real-time IP applications to financial institutions worldwide. This included remotely managing thousands of servers that collected pricing information on millions of financial instruments from hundreds of exchanges around the world in real-time. Distributing films over the web allows SAVVIS to utilize this real time IP delivery experience and deliver superior performance to CinemaNow and the more than one million users each month.

CinemaNow, Inc. (www.cinemanow.com) is the global leader in Internet-based video-on-demand (VOD) and subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) distribution and technology. Through its growing list of content partners, the CinemaNow Web site has become the premier destination for the authorized downloading and streaming of feature films on the Internet. CinemaNow has also developed PatchBay™, a proprietary video-on-demand content distribution and management system that runs the CinemaNow Web site, and is available as a licensable technology solution.
