PHOENIX - The Phoenix Suns and Qwest Communications have partnered to launch the 2nd Annual “Team Assist,” a community outreach initiative designed to provide new basketball equipment to two Arizona high school varsity basketball programs.
High school varsity basketball players and coaches, along with teachers and parents throughout Arizona are encouraged to log on to www.suns.com/assist to fill out an entry form explaining why their school’s basketball program is in need of new equipment. Entry forms must be submitted by Sunday, November 21.
Two programs will then be selected as recipients of a $5,000 donation, courtesy of Qwest Communications, to be utilized for the equipment outlined in their proposals. The donation will be distributed evenly between the boys and girls programs at each high school.
“This marks the second year that Qwest and the Suns have partnered to help local Arizona schools. Qwest shares the Sun's commitment and passion&amn">Arizona's educational system so that we can grow Arizona's workforce from within our own borders,” said Jim Campbell, Qwest President for Arizona. “This program, along with our Teachers and Technology grants, where Qwest will donate $100,000 to local schools for the sixth consecutive year, is just another example of Qwest giving back to communities where our customers and employees live and work.”
In addition to the $5,000 donation, the Suns will host both high school basketball programs at a Suns home game during the 2010-11 season.
