HERNDON, VA, – August 20, 2003 – SAVVIS Communications (NASDAQ: SVVS), a global managed IP services and managed hosting provider, announced it will provide managed private IP VPN and Internet services to Lions Gate Entertainment (AMEX and TSX: LGF), a leading independent worldwide producer and distributor of motion pictures, home entertainment, television programming, animation and video-on-demand content.

The contract marks another step in SAVVIS’ expansion into the media and entertainment sector, from its traditional base of providing managed global managed IP services to the financial services industry, including banks, brokerage firms and electronic trading networks, as well as a diverse range of professional services firms, retail establishments, healthcare and manufacturing companies.

Under terms of the contract, SAVVIS’ managed IP VPN services will support a broad range of network applications for Lions Gate.  These include private WAN operations linking the company’s U.S. and Canadian facilities, videoconferencing, corporate e-mail, digital asset management, and viewing of “digital dailies,” i.e., the day-by-day progress being made on a particular film.

The last of these two applications — digital asset management and viewing of digital dailies — illustrate the way the film and media sectors are increasingly turning toward high performance IP networking as a way to move and manage multimedia content.

“In the past, media and entertainment companies required several different network models to meet all of our needs”, said Lions Gate Vice President of Information Technology Cory Elliott.  “We were required to manage multiple networks and multiple pieces of hardware, not to mention the high capital outlay and monthly costs involved in this fragmented model.  SAVVIS has helped us converge all of those divergent operations on to one seamless managed IP network, while simultaneously improving the quality of our network connectivity. Our contract with SAVVIS reflects another efficient, cost-effective and innovative step in Lions Gate’s commitment to cutting edge technology.”

“Although deploying global networks can be a complicated undertaking, the customer-facing solutions should be streamlined and simplified,” SAVVIS Chairman and CEO Robert McCormick said.  “To that end, SAVVIS is providing Lions Gate with a network solution that allows for true convergence of all of their applications.  SAVVIS' private IP solution will provide Lions Gate with the bandwidth they need and the multiple SLA levels their applications require, all over a single private-access loop.  We believe this a great example of increasing network quality, while simultaneously simplifying operations.”
