Nectar, the United Kingdom’s leading coalition loyalty programme has extended its contract agreement with Savvis, an outsourcing provider of managed computing and network infrastructure solutions, to manage the IT infrastructure that will support the business critical applications of its UK Nectar programme.
Since Nectar’s launch in 2002, more than 50 percent of UK households have signed up to Nectar’s loyalty programme, earning points through the purchasing of goods both in store and via its website and over £1 billion of rewards have been redeemed by its collectors. In its pursuit of becoming the global leader in loyalty management, Groupe Aeroplan acquired Loyalty Management Group (LMG) in December 2007, who operated Nectar.
Following the acquisition, a due diligence review of Nectar’s IT systems took place to ensure optimal cost and operations efficiencies. After reviewing many leading UK service providers, Groupe Aeroplan confirmed that Savvis would continue to be the best provider for Nectar.
Under the terms of the agreement, Savvis will continue to manage the underlying IT infrastructure that supports Nectar’s core business applications, including its point redemption, data warehouse and financial systems as well as managing its private networks, security and utility-based data storage infrastructure.
Savvis will also continue to host www.nectar.com, which processes thousands of transactions per day from consumers and businesses and provides access to more than 300 online retailers such as Amazon.co.uk and eBay.
Using Savvis’ utility-based platform, Nectar will be able to meet peaks in demand and can also call upon additional storage capacity and network bandwidth around the world in anticipation of future growth. Savvis’ ISO 27001 accredited UK data centres also help safeguard Nectar’s business and customer data.
“We’ve had a very successful and close working relationship with Savvis for the past eight years,” said Fiachra Woodman, IT Director at Groupe Aeroplan UK. “We have benefited greatly from the speed and flexibility of their Utility Computing platform. We fully expect to use their services in the future in the UK and as part of our international endeavours.”
“Nectar is a long standing and highly valued customer of Savvis and we are delighted that they have chosen to extend their contract agreement with us,” said Brian Klingbeil Managing Director EMEA for Savvis. “We look forward to helping Groupe Aeroplan extend their loyalty plans around the world through our global infrastructure of data centres.”
