GRAND FORKS, ND, August 27, 2007 - Qwest is offering free Call Forwarding to customers in Northwood who are unable to return to their homes and small businesses due to damages from yesterday's tornado. Call Forwarding enables customers to have calls automatically forwarded to another phone number, such as a mobile phone or the number of family or friends they are staying with until they are able to return to their homes or small businesses.
Due to power outages in the area, Qwest equipment is currently running on back-up generator power, and Qwest's network and services are operating normally. Qwest has dispatched additional personnel and resources to assess network damages caused by the tornado.
"When there's an emergency like this, it's important to stay in close contact with loved ones. Qwest is proud of the role we play to help keep families connected," said Scott Macintosh, Qwest's North Dakota state president. "Qwest's commitment is to do all we can to keep communications service available, and when it is impacted, to get it restored as quickly as possible."
Qwest customers in Northwood who have been evacuated from their homes and small businesses can call 1 800-573-1311 to set up Call Forwarding free of charge.
In addition, Qwest reminds customers that a non-cordless phone with traditional wireline telephone service will still work when the power is out, since they do not require commercial power. It is important to keep at least one phone in the house that does not need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. During a power outage, voice services that require commercial power - such as cable phones and Internet telephony service - may not work.
Qwest offers a unique and powerful combination of voice and data solutions for businesses, government agencies and consumers - locally and throughout the country. Customers coast to coast are turning to Qwest's industry-leading national fiber optic network and its Spirit of Service for quality products and superior customer experience.
