DENVER - October 13, 1998 - Qwest (NASDAQ: QWST) today announced the appointment of Drake S. Tempest to executive vice president and general counsel. Tempest will have responsibility for Qwest's legal, regulatory and legislative affairs functions. He will be based at Qwest headquarters in Denver and report to Joseph P. Nacchio, president and CEO of Qwest.
Before joining Qwest, Tempest was in private legal practice as a senior partner with O'Melveny & Myers LLP in New York. His expertise includes mergers and acquisitions and securities transactions. Tempest also has extensive experience representing participants and partnerships in joint ventures and private acquisition. He has served as partner with Grais & Richards as well as Holme Roberts & Owen LLP.

Tempest graduated magna cum laude with highest distinctions in Political Science from Williams College. He then did his post graduate studies at Worcester College, Oxford University. Tempest received his J.D. degree from Yale Law School.
