DENVER, Sept. 26, 2007 — Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE:Q) today announced that Roland Thornton, executive vice president of Qwest wholesale markets, will chair the new nonprofit foundation created by the Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce (CBCC).

As the foundation’s chairman, Thornton, who is already a member of the chamber’s board of directors, will oversee the CBCC scholarship fund and leadership programs, including Chamber Connect, a program that offers executive training and networking opportunities for business, community and entrepreneurial leaders in Colorado.
“The Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce offers a tremendous amount of leadership, guidance and many networking opportunities to its members and the entire community,” said Thornton. “To be a part of a foundation that directly promotes the future success of professionals and students is a true honor. And the goals of the Chamber Connect program nicely align with the Qwest Foundation’s mission to promote education and learning in the community.”
Foundation members will also include chamber board members Dale Mingilton, Kayleen Hollines, Vanecia Kerr, Odell Barry and Chamber President Wellington Webb. Community leaders will serve as outside foundation directors and will include Steve Farber of Brownstein Hyatt & Farber; lobbyist Maria Garcia Berry, president of CRL Associates; Tom Clark of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce; and Tami Door of the Downtown Denver Partnership.
The mission of the Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1985, is to provide leadership for the growth and development of African-American businesses and to facilitate the empowerment of the African-American community, and the organization continues to grow in the community with over 800 members and 50 corporate sponsorships.
