SEATTLE, Jan. 25, 2008 – Qwest is proud to announce the results of a partnership with the Seattle Seahawks that will benefit the Page Ahead program. While the Seahawks were in the NFL playoffs, Qwest made a commitment to donate $120 for every 12 yards thrown by Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. After the Jan. 5 game vs. the Washington Redskins and the Jan. 12 game vs. the Green Bay Packers, Hasselbeck threw a total of 423 yards, resulting in a check for $4,230 for Page Ahead.
“We are avid readers at my house, so when Qwest approached me to participate in the program I didn’t hesitate,” said Hasselbeck. “On behalf of Qwest, we are pleased to donate $4,230 to the King County chapter of Page Ahead, dedicated to promoting reading activities and providing new books for at-risk children.”
“This partnership with the Seahawks and Matt Hasselbeck highlights their incredible giving spirit and is the perfect example of what can happen when people put their ideas to work,” said Kirk Nelson, Qwest president for Washington. “As a result, the Qwest donation will help Page Ahead further its mission of helping children in our community.”
Since 1990, Page Ahead has placed more than 1.25 million new books into the hands of 450,000 at-risk children through collaborations with schools, social service agencies, preschools, and early childhood centers across Washington.
