DENVER, November 6, 2001 ? Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q), the broadband communications company, today announced that its ?Talking Call Waiting? service was honored with the International Engineering Consortium?s prestigious Info Vision Award at the recent National Communications Forum in Chicago, Ill.
Qwest was the first company in the nation to deploy Talking Call Waiting to the majority of its consumer and business customers. This service enhances Call Waiting by announcing the name of the second caller immediately after the Call Waiting beep.
?Talking Call Waiting lets people communicate on their own terms,? said Randy Meissner, senior vice president of marketing for Qwest consumer markets. ?As consumers or business people, we?ve all had the experience of taking a call that wasn?t important, or missing a call we wish we?d taken. Talking Call Waiting provides the added ?intelligence? that lets the customer decide if they want to take the second call without putting the first one on hold.?
Talking Call Waiting is available to more than 80 percent of consumers and businesses across Qwest?s 14-state local service area. The product uses a synthesized voice to announce the primary name of the home or business from which an incoming call is made. Only the person receiving the call hears the announcement providing a sense of added security and control by ensuring that important calls will not be missed and reducing the number of times ongoing conversations are interrupted.
The InfoVision Awards program was established to recognize technologies, applications, products and services judged to be the most unique and beneficial to the technology industry. The Awards also honor corporations and individuals for innovative contributions and developments that have proven important to society. Award winners are selected from hundreds of nominees based upon the following criteria: innovation, uniqueness, market impact, customer benefits and value to society.
