San Antonio, October 25, 2000 — Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q), the broadband Internet communications company, today announced it is now offering a complete, end-to-end portfolio of high-speed local broadband services, including DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) Internet connections, to businesses in Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio, Tex.
Qwest Local Broadband enters the Lone Star state with an unmatched range of services to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes, including broadband access technologies such as DSL and direct fiber connections—delivering speeds from 256 Kbps to OC-192. These high-speed connections give customers direct access to Qwest's broad portfolio of broadband applications and services, including Internet access, Web site design and application hosting, LAN integration, and long distance services.
"Businesses in Texas now have a clear choice for all of their broadband and Internet needs," said Augie Cruciotti, president of Qwest Local Broadband. "They no longer have to settle for piecemeal solutions, cobbling together their DSL, Internet access and hosting services from different companies. By leveraging Qwest's broadband network and CyberCentersm hosting facilities, we're able to offer the entire range of services and give our customers the convenience of working with one company."
Qwest is building local fiber rings in 25 major metropolitan markets to give customers direct, high-speed connections to Qwest's global broadband Internet network. Earlier this month, the company launched its broadband services in six California markets.
Qwest has an unequaled three-prong approach that brings broadband services to businesses of all sizes, whether they are located in stand-alone facilities or in office towers and business parks:
Integrated Fiber Solutions
Qwest Local Broadband's direct fiber access is ideally suited for customers that have data-rich applications or have large bandwidth needs for multiple locations within a city and require extremely high levels of security and protection. By providing direct local broadband access to the Qwest backbone, customers will also avoid local access charges normally incurred when relying on another local exchange carrier to provide connectivity.
Currently, Qwest Local Broadband fiber rings are carrying traffic in Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston. Service will be available in Austin and San Antonio in 2001.
When all 25 Qwest local fiber networks are complete next year, the network will consist of more than 375,000 local fiber miles. In addition to the Texas markets, the metropolitan areas include: Albany, N.Y.; Baltimore; Boston; Chicago; Cleveland; Detroit; Indianapolis; Kansas City, Mo.; Los Angeles; New York; Newark; Orange County, Calif.; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; Sacramento; St. Louis; San Diego; San Francisco; San Jose; Washington, D.C.; and White Plains, N.Y.
