Denver, October 16, 2000 — Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q), the broadband Internet communications company, today announced it is now offering a complete, end-to-end portfolio of high-speed local broadband services, including DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) Internet access, to businesses in five California markets. These new Qwest Local Broadband services are available in San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego.

Through its Qwest Local Broadband initiative, Qwest is building local fiber rings in 25 major metropolitan markets to give customers direct, high-speed connections to Qwest's global broadband Internet network. In each market Qwest deploys a combination of broadband access technologies, including DSL and direct fiber connections, that deliver access speeds from 256Kbps up to OC-192. With these high-speed connections, customers can now directly access Qwest's broad portfolio of broadband applications and services, such as Web site and application hosting, e-commerce and interoffice networking solutions. All of these services are backed by around the clock support and give customers a seamless, single-provider option to meet their Internet access and Web needs.

"High-speed connections to the Internet or corporate networks are extremely important to businesses today, but they are only the foundation of the broadband solution," said Augie Cruciotti, senior vice president of Qwest Local Broadband. "By leveraging Qwest's broadband network and CyberCentersm hosting facilities, we’re able to offer the entire range of services, from high-speed Internet connections and LAN integration to Web site design and hosting."

Qwest, which first launched these services in Sacramento in May, has an unequaled three-prong approach that brings broadband services to businesses of all sizes, whether they are located in stand-alone facilities or in office towers and business parks:

Integrated Fiber Solutions
Qwest Local Broadband's direct fiber access is ideally suited for customers that have data-rich applications or have large bandwidth needs for multiple locations within a city and require extremely high levels of security and protection. By providing direct local broadband access to the Qwest backbone, customers will also avoid local access charges normally incurred when relying on another local exchange carrier to provide connectivity.

Currently, Qwest Local Broadband fiber rings are carrying traffic in Sacramento and Los Angeles. Service will be available in San Francisco and San Jose in the first quarter of 2001, and in Orange County and San Diego in the second quarter of next year.

When all 25 Qwest local fiber networks are complete in mid-2001, the network will consist of more than 375,000 local fiber miles. In addition to the California markets, the metropolitan areas include: Albany, N.Y.; Austin; Baltimore; Boston; Chicago; Cleveland; Dallas; Detroit; Houston; Indianapolis; Kansas City, Mo.; New York; Newark; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; San Antonio; St. Louis; Washington, D.C.; and White Plains, N.Y.

Integrated Business Solutions
By packaging high-speed, always-on Qwest DSL connections with Internet connections and hosting services, Qwest is able to offer companies an end-to-end Web solution, a single point of contact for business-class customer care and one bill.

This integrated bundle of data and Web services helps companies with up to 500 employees increase productivity, share data more efficiently and interact with customers online on a near real-time basis with their broadband connections. Other applications suited for this DSL environment include telecommuting, remote office access, Internet access, desktop videoconferencing and voice communications. This integrated DSL solution is available now in all of Qwest's California markets.

Integrated Solutions for Buildings
Qwest also creates "smart buildings" by outfitting them with broadband equipment to give all of the building's tenants Internet and network connections up to 100 Mbps — nearly 1,800 times faster than the fastest dial-up connection.

Qwest also offers a suite of services to get businesses online, starting with Internet access, Web site design, hosting and maintenance and e-mail. In the coming months businesses will be able to choose from a full suite of telephone services, Internet security solutions and hosted business applications.
