Denver, January 16, 2001 - Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q), the broadband Internet communications company, today announced Qwest e-SolutionsSM – a comprehensive suite of pre-packaged and customizable business solutions that provide companies of all sizes the tools and expertise to use the Internet to streamline their business operations and conduct e-commerce.
Qwest e-Solutions integrates the company's key assets to offer customers three distinct solution sets that address a variety of electronic business needs. Starting as low as $40 per month, Qwest's services range from pre-packaged, scalable Web-site design and hosting services to customized application development, complex hosting and IT (Information Technology) consulting. These e-Solutions sets are backed by Qwest's leading Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and a new service team to provide customers a single point of contact throughout the design, ordering and implementation process, as well as for ongoing service management. (For customers located in the 14 Western states where Qwest provides local phone service, Qwest provides access to the Internet in conjunction with a separate global service provider.*)
"While others have announced plans and advertising campaigns that promise to expand e-business services, Qwest is now delivering the most comprehensive suite of in-house e-Solutions," said Rick Weston, senior vice president of Qwest Internet solutions. "By leveraging our innovative services portfolio and high-speed broadband infrastructure, Qwest is the only company that can successfully deliver a spectrum of end-to-end solutions that hit every segment of the e-business market."
By outsourcing their Web hosting and applications, businesses can save four to six times the cost of building and hosting applications themselves, according to Robertson Stephens, a leading investment bank. Qwest is the only provider to offer the full breadth of Web hosting, ASP and professional services combined with a global Internet network and data center infrastructure that can support entry-level companies to multi-national enterprises.
Qwest e-Solutions is available now, and leverages an array of core assets, including:
- Qwest's global broadband Internet network – the industry's most advanced, high-performance OC-192 (10Gigbits per second) optical network
- Qwest CyberCentersSM – More than 20 worldwide Internet hosting facilities connected to the Qwest network and staffed around-the-clock with technical experts who manage, maintain and support customers' mission critical data and equipment
- Qwest Cyber.Solutions LLC – the industry's largest enterprise ASP, offering applications via strategic relationships, including Ariba, Captura, Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP and Siebel Systems
- Qwest Interactive – Already having developed over 1,500 customer applications, Qwest Interactive's 500 Internet professionals meet customer demands for IT consulting services, including system integration, application development, complex hosting and award-winning interactive Web design and branding
- Qwest Dedicated Network Services – networking solutions with the ability to scale with each customer’s growing needs
The market for e-business services – including Web hosting, e-commerce, Application Service Provider (ASP) services, Internet consulting and integration services – is expected to grow to more than $70 billion by 2003, according to The Yankee Group. "By positioning its e-Solutions suite of products and services to span across the market for e-business services, Qwest is making good on its strategy of offering a full-service, end-to-end e-business solution," said Carrie Lewis, chief analyst for The Yankee Group's E-Sourcing Strategies Planning Service.
Qwest offers three e-Solutions sets to meet the varying needs of customers:
Starting at $40 per month, this preset solution is designed to address the needs of small businesses that want to quickly extend their businesses online with a basic commerce-oriented Web site. Qwest will provide four to 16 standard Web pages, basic Web development through Qwest Interactive, and shared server space.
This e-Solution is for companies that need dedicated server support and are interested in a more complex Web site or storefront that can be hosted and managed by Qwest. This solution gives customers a choice between two infrastructure options that include dedicated Web servers, software, managed firewall, hosting space and bandwidth services.
The Dedicated e-Solution also offers guaranteed install timeframes and incorporates services such as 24x7 uptime and physical security through Qwest's advanced CyberCenters, ASP services from Qwest Cyber.Solutions and consulting and IT services provided by Qwest Interactive. This set is geared towards mid-sized businesses in need of more tailored solutions, including dedicated Web servers, Web hosting, Web design, and basic ASP services such as customer resource management, accounting tools, and e-messaging.
The custom offering builds off of the Dedicated e-Solution and is ideal for large enterprise customers. It takes full advantage of Qwest's complex hosting and technical expertise, including Qwest Interactive services such as interactive Web design, strategic and on-site consulting, tailored application development and provisioning, and advanced monitoring and maintenance.
Each e-Solutions set from Qwest includes leading SLAs such as guaranteed power, server and network availability to ensure a customer's experience and services run as planned. Customers have the option to choose from a standard set of SLAs depending on their needs across different services, as well as custom SLAs. For example, if a company is interested in specific guarantees for a new, fully managed intranet, Qwest will work with that customer to develop SLAs that ensure consistent, high-quality service. Customers can also tap Qwest Cyber.Solutions' QCS ProofPositiveTM ASP SLAs, offering a choice of three service levels on selected platforms: Standard (99% application availability), Enhanced Response (99.7%) and Business Critical (99.99%).
Qwest customer CorporateGifts.com leveraged an array of e-Solutions services to launch the first integrated online solution for businesses to plan, execute and manage their incentive, recognition and corporate gift programs.
"Our relationship with Qwest spans much more than one or two services," said Alan Kerzner, senior vice president of strategic initiatives for The Robbins Company/CorporateGifts.com. "Qwest's ability to work with us on the design, integration, development and now, maintenance and hosting, has provided us with one of the best performing sites available and we look forward leveraging Qwest's new e-solutions services as our needs grow."
