CHEYENNE, Wyo., June 28, 2007 – The Qwest Foundation today announced an award of $3,000 to the Wyoming Latina Youth Conference (WLYC). The conference - presented by a committee of community volunteers in partnership with the Laramie County Community College - will be held at the Laramie County Community College Conferences and Events Center October 12-14.
The WLYC strives to meet the challenge of ensuring that young people in Wyoming are provided with information to assist them in developing insightful,positive choices to the everyday issues confronting them. The programs included in the WLYC cover important issues such as dealing with depression and the importance of graduating from high school, and the use of alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs.
The Qwest Foundation’s core principle is that investing in people and communities provides lasting value for the future. The Qwest Foundation awards grants to community-based programs that generate high-impact and measurable results, focusing on K through grade 12 education and economic development.
