DENVER, November 9, 1998 -- Qwest is pleased to announce that Jack McMaster has been named executive vice president of international and will focus on new business development, ventures and alliances and the sales and operations of network capacity to international communications firms. McMaster will report directly to Qwest CEO and President Joseph P. Nacchio.
McMaster joins Qwest following a 20-year career at AT&T where he most recently served as vice president of AT&T?s $26 billion consumer markets business, which included more than 18,000 employees. Previously he was president of the AT&T Atlantic States region. McMaster also served as managing director of the AT&T United Kingdom business and has held assignments in sales, marketing, product management, network operations and human resources.
"Jack is a seasoned executive with global experience dealing with customers, business partners and leading organizations," said Nacchio. "Jack will be a strong addition to our management team as we expand the Qwest outside of the U.S."
Reynie Ortiz, Qwest?s senior vice president of international development and operations, will continue to focus on Qwest initiatives already underway in Europe and Mexico as McMaster assumes the leadership of the international business operations.
"Reynie has done a superb job of launching our international business, particularly alliances and ventures in Mexico and Europe, and submarine cable routes between the U.S. and other countries," said Nacchio.
McMaster graduated from Manhattan College with a BS in business administration. He holds MBA and MA degrees from New York University and has completed the program for management development at Harvard Business School.
Ortiz negotiated with the government of Mexico and forged a deal with Bestel S.A. de C.V. to extend Qwest's network into 14 major cities in Mexico while serving as a consultant to Qwest. Previously, Ortiz served as President and CEO of US West International, Inc., where he developed and executed US West's entry into cable television-telephony and wireless communications in Europe, Asia and Latin America. He also served as President and COO of US West cellular and paging operations. Prior to US West, Ortiz held a number of executive positions during his 16 years at IBM, most notably in the development of global product distribution channels, European manufacturing operations and Far East product sourcing.
