Denver, May 7, 2007 - Qwest Communications International, Inc. (NYSE: Q) today announced that Bruce W. Smith has been appointed vice president of its Northeast region retail enterprise sales for the business markets group, effective May 2. Richard McGuire, who previously headed up the East region, will now oversee the Southeast region. Both Smith and McGuire will report to Tom Richards, executive vice president of business markets group for Qwest.

Smith has almost 30 years of professional experience in sales, including keys roles in telecommunications with AT&T, Equant and Infonet. He most recently served as senior vice president of sales for Gateway Inc.'s professional business. His career with AT&T spanned more than 18 years and included leading sales positions in both Europe and the United States, particularly in the northeast.

"Bruce Smith has a successful track record in leading key sales initiatives and his industry knowledge will prove to be invaluable to Qwest," Richards said. "He is a perfect fit to lead Qwest's newly formed Northeast region and our efforts in continuing to provide superior customer service to business customers in that area. We believe this new arrangement will allow us to focus more aggressively on customer needs in the East and with two regions will yield even better results through our ongoing Spirit of Service."

Smith holds both a bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University and a master's degree from the University of Virginia. He and his family live in Amherst, NH.

Smith will work in Qwest's New York City office while McGuire will continue to work in Atlanta.
