DENVER, Nov. 17, 2008 — Friday marked the start of the 2008-2009 University of Colorado men’s basketball season, and for the first time, the “Winning Attitude” program will continue during the season. The program, developed by Qwest Communications, FSN Rocky Mountain and the University of Colorado (CU) will honor four middle school students for their winning attitudes at a CU basketball game in addition to the six honored during the CU football season.

“We are extremely pleased to see Qwest and FSN Rocky Mountain join us in the growth of the Winning Attitude Program to now include basketball. This initiative is proving to be contagious to many of our constituents and the recognition for exemplary community service is well deserving” per Mike Bohn, CU Athletic Director.

Qwest, the official communications partner for University of Colorado Athletics, partnered with FSN Rocky Mountain and the University of Colorado three years ago to create the Winning Attitude program. The program honors middle school students around Colorado for the differences they make in their communities by providing outstanding efforts in sportsmanship, community involvement and teamwork.

“It is incredible what these middle school students are doing for their communities, and Qwest is proud to support and encourage them to continue their winning attitudes,” said Rich Karlis, Qwest’s Director of Sponsorships and Events.

“FSN Rocky Mountain is thrilled to help honor these students for their achievement,” said Tim Griggs, FSN Rocky Mountain Senior Vice President/General Manager.  “We would like to congratulate those who already earned the award and look forward to hearing more about the positive impact students have on their respective communities.”

During this CU men’s basketball season, four more winning entrants and their classmates will win a trip to a CU home basketball game and a $1,000 contribution for their school from Qwest. The winners will be recognized at the following games:

  • Dec. 3 against Texas Christian University
  • Dec. 10 against Colorado State University
  • Jan. 24 against Kansas State University
  • Feb. 4 against University of Nebraska

The grand prize winner will receive a $2,500 contribution from Qwest for their school, as well as a pep rally hosted at the winner’s school.
