DENVER, February 3, 2000 ? The merger between Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q), the broadband Internet communications company, and U S WEST, Inc. (NYSE: USW) passed another milestone as the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (PRC) issued an order stating it does not have jurisdiction over the pending combination of the two companies and therefore will not rule on the transaction.
In the final order, the New Mexico PRC said that it may choose to examine the effects of the merger on the state of New Mexico after the transaction is completed. The two companies expect to close the merger in mid-2000.
The newly merged company, to be named Qwest Communications International Inc., will be headquartered in Denver and employ about 64,000 people worldwide.
