DENVER, November 24, 1998 ? Qwest Communications International, Inc. (NASDAQ: QWST) announced today that H. Brian Thompson, vice chairman of Qwest, will leave the company at the end of the year to pursue several other interests and opportunities. Thompson will Directors effective January 1, 1999.
Thompson was the chairman and chief executive officer of LCI Interncompany was acquired by Qwest last June. "To ensure a smooth transition to the new Qwest organization, it was important after the merger that I remain with the company until now," said Thompson. "With that effort now essentially complete, it is time to move on to new challenges."
Thompson said that he will continue in his role in various international communications initiatives, including serving as Co-Chair for the Americas of the Global Information Infrastructure Commission. For the Irish government, he recently wrapped up an assignment as Chairman of that country?s Advisory Committee on Telecommunications, with a final report presented to Ireland?s Prime Minister last week.
