The retail stores offer an original and customer-friendly layout using interactive displays, accessible merchandise, product demos and electronic media platforms. Interactive touch-screen monitors give customers the information they need on services, such as EMBARQ(TM) High-Speed Internet, EMBARQ(TM) Wireless, DISH Network satellite TV and landline telephone services and devices. The new design allows customers to get a hands-on demonstration of services such as EMBARQ(TM) High-Speed Internet, where they have the opportunity to experience the speed and become acquainted with its additional free services such as EMBARQ(TM) Media Safe(SM), EMBARQ(TM) Video Clicks(SM) and EMBARQ(TM) Personal Media Link(SM).
Additionally, many EMBARQ(TM) retail stores have enhanced the availability of products and services for its business customers by including a business "store-within-a-store." A business sales representative is present at these stores to consult with and customize solutions for business customers. In locations where the services are available, customers can receive demonstrations of Smart Connect(SM), Wireless Data, Connection Central(TM), the Business Resource Center and other business applications. Customers also can learn about the advantages of the Business Rewards program, which allows small business and home office customers to save up to 90 percent on more than 75,000 reward items.
"We are a brand new company that's aggressive, innovative and committed to our customers and we want our retail stores to reflect those qualities," said Susan Squires, retail visual strategy and merchandising manager. "This new look helps differentiate EMBARQ from other telecom companies while making it much easier for our six million residential and business customers to shop for their communications services."
EMBARQ earned its 2006 Retail Store Design of the Year award in competition with other retailers with stores under 5,000 square feet and in the "hard line" (non-apparel) category. EMBARQ used Kansas City-based Winntech, a retail design and strategy agency, to create and implement the new lifestyle enhancement design. The first store to receive the new design is located in Gardner, Kan. Currently, 14 of the company's 46 stores are operating with the new design. Three more stores are scheduled to open by the end of February 2007. Also, Winntech is redesigning many of the existing EMBARQ(TM) stores across the country.
"We are extremely pleased with the new look and layout of our retail stores and are honored to be recognized for this change by Chain Store Age magazine," said David Cordisco, EMBARQ national director of retail sales.
EMBARQ representatives will be presented the award March 4 in Orlando, Fla., and a feature profiling EMBARQ will appear in the February 2007 issue of Chain Store Age.
