DENVER, Nov. 7, 2008 — Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) workers represented by the Communications Workers of America ratified a tentative agreement reached between the company and the union last month.


On Oct. 10, the CWA and Qwest reached a new agreement on the terms of a proposed four-year contract covering about 20,000 Qwest workers. The agreement followed the CWA’s refusal on Sept. 30 to ratify a tentative agreement reached between the company and the union last August.


“We appreciate that the CWA and its membership carefully considered the tentative agreement and we believe that we are delivering a competitive compensation package for our workers,” said Rich Baer, general counsel and chief administrative officer for Qwest. “We look forward to working in partnership with the CWA and its members to deliver the best possible telecommunications experience for our customers.”


Key provisions of the latest tentative agreement included wage increases totaling more than 12 percent over the term of the contract, modest changes to health care benefits and an increase in pension benefits for new retirees. The new contract will expire Oct. 6, 2012.
