For the second year,CenturyLink will light up downtown Johnson City for the Blue Plum Festival by blanketing the downtown area with wireless high speed Internet. Blue Plum Festival patrons and volunteers can access the Internet to do everything from surf the Net, blog, access Facebook, Twitter and stream video using personal devices. CenturyLink has made it possible for visitors to stay connected while enjoying the pleasantries of the festival.
Also, CenturyLink will provide services to the “CenturyLink Media Lounge,” including high speed Internet. The Media Lounge will be located at the corner of Roan and the 200 block of Main, and will serve as the gathering place for members of the news media to work, conduct interviews, and rest.
The CenturyLink team began working on needs assessment for the festival in late April, and are deploying services now to ensure all services are ready for the event. CenturyLink will deploy wireless high speed Internet over CenturyLink DSL circuits to provide total coverage over the seven and one-half block area of the festival and inside the Media Lounge. In addition, dedicated lines will be provisioned for news media to use for streaming video inside the Media Lounge and at the stages.
“We are proud to again support Blue Plum,” said Lottie Ryans, CenturyLink vice president and general manager. “People in today’s digital age always want to be connected even while at a festival like Blue Plum. Broadband is a very important part of CenturyLink’s business; therefore, it makes sense for us to use our broadband services to contribute to the success of events like Blue Plum.”
“CenturyLink’s providing wireless high speed Internet to the festival allows us to leverage technology to improve Festival patron’s experience ten-fold,” said David Pennington, Blue Plum executive director. “Media and patrons can stream video from any location to capture various festival activities to share with friends--and the world. The world has certainly become much smaller through the use of technology. We are grateful for CenturyLink’s continued support.”
