BOISE, Idaho – CenturyLink, Inc.’s (NYSE: CTL) Idaho Pioneers Chapter is hosting the annual Beeping Easter Egg Hunt for visually-impaired youth in the Idaho Falls area. The event will be at 12 p.m. April 7 at Guesthouse Inn in Idaho Falls.
The hunt features unique eggs that are engineered with electronic circuit boards, batteries and telephone speakers to emit distinctive beeping sounds. The eggs, provided by the Pioneers, were developed specifically for use by visually-impaired children.
This “beeping” technology was originally developed in 1964 by Charlie Fairbanks, a telephone engineer who created the concept for beeping baseballs. The technology was later modified to produce beeping Easter eggs. The CenturyLink Pioneers will sponsor similar events throughout the country this spring.
"CenturyLink is proud of our strong partnership with the Pioneers organization,” said Jim Schmit, CenturyLink vice president and general manager for Idaho and chairman of the International Pioneers’ board of directors. “Being a part of the community and supporting a simple, yet inspirational, event that enriches the lives of local children is extremely rewarding.”
Founded in 1911 as the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Pioneers has grown to be the largest industry-related volunteer organization in the world. A non-profit network of more than 620,000 volunteers, Pioneers is committed to effect immediate, tangible change in local communities.
