ST. CLOUD, Minn…. Just over 60 St. Cloud area CenturyLink employees and retirees – members of the telecom volunteer group, Pioneers – participated in a Milk Can Lunch fundraiser to benefit our veterans. The group was able to raise $2,000, which will help cover the cost of sending veterans and their families to a Minnesota rehabilitation retreat, Project New Hope.
The effort was led by CenturyLink Network Technicians Daryl Steil and Lee Hoffenkamp. The two cooked the Milk Can lunch and welcomed speaker Dale Johansen of Project New Hope. Attendees to the event were asked to make a donation on behalf of veterans.
The goal of Project New Hope is to provide combat veterans and their families with the education, training, and skills necessary to manage their lives after wartime service, with a special focus on repair of relationships. In his presentation, Johansen shared that “upon their return home, only one-third of veterans seek help for post-traumatic stress or depression. Another one-third sought inadequate help, and yet another third do not seek help at all.”
CenturyLink Vice-President and General Manager Erik Genrich commended the effort Steil, Hoffenkamp and all CenturyLink St. Cloud employees put in to the event, noting the importance of assisting the people who have kept us safe in time of war. Genrich added, “We find value in and strive to give back to our communities through volunteering and through financial support. Many of our St. Cloud area employees are veterans, but all of them are committed to helping others in their community.”
The dollars CenturyLink employees raised will help send families to Camp New Hope in McGregor, MN.
