Statement by Edward A. Mueller, Chairman and CEO of Qwest, and Chairman of NSTAC, on the Release of the Cyberspace Policy Review

Denver, May 29, 2009 – The following statement is by Edward A. Mueller, chairman and chief executive officer of Qwest Communications (NYSE: Q). He also chairs the president’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC), an organization of 30 chief executives from major telecommunications companies, network service providers, information technology, finance, and aerospace companies who provide the U.S. government with the best possible industry advice on the availability and reliability of telecommunications services to meet the nation’s critical national security and emergency preparedness challenges.

“President Obama and his administration have taken an important first step toward creating a safe cyber environment by releasing the 60-day Cyberspace Policy Review. Through this initiative, the president is supporting the values of civil liberties and protected privacy, as well as promoting economic growth, while enhancing the trustworthiness of the global cyberspace.

“Qwest has long supported the ongoing federal government focus on cyber security. We have worked actively with the government and industry on issues associated with protecting our networks and the information that flows through them.
