During his extensive and varied career, Girish Varma has held numerous technical and business leadership positions.

Varma is currently President of Global Information Technology Services and New Market Development, where he is responsible for leading CenturyLink’s new products and solutions in the areas of IT strategy and technology consulting, application services, cloud systems integration, IT security services and new market development.

Previously, as Executive Vice President of Information Technology at CenturyLink, Varma was responsible for all IT development and operations, including strategy, architecture and software development (including overseas operations), and for development and sales support of enterprise IT services. In this role, he led the IT organization in integrations of the Qwest and Savvis acquisitions.

Prior to the CenturyLink/Qwest merger, Varma served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Qwest, a position he held since September 2006 and included leading the IT organization in enabling the business turnaround at Qwest. Before joining Qwest, he served as the Vice President of Global Applications Services and the Telecom Center of Competency at IBM. There, he was responsible for the development of new business and products for the telecom industry as well as for building critical expertise and delivery for complex telecom programs.

Prior to joining IBM, Varma was a Vice President at AT&T, where he retired in 2003 after a successful 25-year career. At AT&T, he had the CIO and service development responsibilities for AT&T business, network and local services. He started his telecommunications career at Bell Laboratories, where he held a number of technical and management positions with increasing levels of responsibilities. During the past several years he led a number of successful business and IT transformation programs in several areas of business.

Varma holds a Masters Degree from Banaras Hindu University in India and a PhD from the City University of New York. He is also a recipient of numerous business achievement and software excellence awards.
