CenturyLink Supports Rockefeller-Thune Cybersecurity Bill
CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) supports cybersecurity legislation introduced today by U.S. Sens. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) and John Thune (R-S.D.), the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Commerce Committee.
“As one of the leading providers of cybersecurity products to critical infrastructure entities, CenturyLink commends Sens. Rockefeller and Thune for their leadership in crafting and introducing legislation known as the Cybersecurity Act of 2103, S.1353,” said CenturyLink Executive Vice President for Public Policy and Government Relations Steve Davis.
“A voluntary, industry-led process for cybersecurity standards and best practices, like the one described in the bill, is a valuable component in our nation’s overall cybersecurity strategy. The bill’s measures to strengthen cybersecurity research, promote cybersecurity workforce development and develop a cybersecurity public education campaign are also important to America’s cybersecurity posture.
“We encourage Congress to move forward with this bill while also considering similar cybersecurity legislation that encourages information sharing and provides appropriate liability and strong privacy protections to service providers like CenturyLink and their customers,” Davis said.
