CenturyLink Awards 310 classrooms with STEM technology grants

During the past six weeks, employees in our local markets have presented the 2016-2017 CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation’s Teachers and Technology grants.

The program awards grants of up to $5,000 to pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade teachers who outline plans to innovatively implement technology in their classrooms. Across the United States, more than 2,300 grant applications were submitted – more than double our total number of applications from last year. The Foundation funded 310 classroom grants totaling nearly $1.4 million. Applications were reviewed anonymously and grants were awarded based on the impact they will have on students in the classroom and the overall innovation of the project.

STEM education is vital as students prepare for the careers of the future and we are excited to partner with local schools to put technology in the hands of their students. This year’s projects demonstrate the wide range of opportunity and need in our schools. From gifted to special education classes and English to Robotics, teachers are finding ways to leverage today’s technology to engage their students and help them learn.
