United Blood Services’ donor Michael Fulkerson Enters Donation Hall of Fame

Albuquerque, NM: United Blood Services’ donor Michael Fulkerson has been selected to be inducted into the Donation Hall of Fame, sponsored by Fenwal, Inc. The Donation Hall of Fame recognizes individuals nationwide who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to blood donation.

United Blood Services will team up with Fenwal to induct Fulkerson at a ceremony to be held on October 29, at the main center located at 1515 University Blvd. NE at 11:00 AM. Fulkerson will be honored for his more than 800 donations.

“It is a fitting tribute to one of our most dedicated donors,” said Charlene Smith, a spokesperson for United Blood Services. “Mike has selflessly given the gift of life to patients in need and is a hero to our community.”

Fulkerson, employed by Qwest, has been donating blood and platelets for more than 30 years.  “We are proud of Mike Fulkerson’s commitment to others and his desire to give life-saving donations that benefit the people of New Mexico – he is well deserving of this honor,” said Loretta A. Armenta, Qwest New Mexico president. “Mike’s volunteer work is one of many examples of how Qwest employees give back to the communities in which they live and work.”

Fulkerson’s is one of 12 inspiring donation stories selected for the Fenwal 2010 Donation Hall of Fame. Blood centers across the country submitted nominations, and winners were chosen by Fenwal based on their demonstrated commitment and passion to donating blood and/or platelets. Fulkerson, along with the 11 other winners will be featured in the company’s 2011 product calendar.

Fulkerson is the first donor from United Blood Services New Mexico to be honored with the Fenwal award. To make the event more special, Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry will designate October 29 as “Mike Fulkerson Day.”
