Scottsdale, AZ, August 14, 2006 - An agreement announced today by Toll Brothers Homes and Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q), makes Scottsdale's Windgate Ranch development the first Arizona development to be connected via fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology.
Through Qwest FTTH service, new Windgate Ranch homeowners in the master-planned community in Scottsdale will have Qwest High-Speed Internet service - up to 10 megabits per second. Homeowners will also have the option to choose a Qwest service bundle, including digital voice (local and long-distance phone service); Qwest Choice TV, an all-digital TV service with more than 200 channels, HDTV programming and digital video recorders; and Qwest wireless service, all conveniently integrated on one bill.
In addition, during the home-buying process, trained sales professionals will promote Qwest's comprehensive, money-saving bundles of communications and entertainment services. Qwest will provide Windgate Ranch residents with a single point-of-contact throughout the property-development lifecycle to simplify and expedite the planning and deployment of the latest technologies in the new communities.
Qwest FTTH connections in Windgate Ranch will allow families to simultaneously run today's most bandwidth-intensive applications - such as high-definition digital TV, Internet access to music and video downloading, online gaming, and streaming video - and assures customers their broadband connection will support tomorrow's applications with ease.
"Toll Brothers has implemented market-leading luxury features, along with community and architectural standards at Windgate Ranch - this community is further differentiated by offering the highest technology standards for homes and businesses," said Kevin Duermit, president Toll Brothers.
Unlike some other technologies, the Qwest connection speed is not diminished during peak usage times. Windgate Ranch residents will simply plug their computer into a data jack built into the home and they are ready to enjoy dedicated high-speed Internet access.
The applications for homeowners, schools and businesses at Windgate Ranch are endless and include distance learning, video conferencing and telecommuting. Qwest FTTH also levels the technology playing field for home-based businesses and may help reduce energy consumption and traffic congestion.
"This deployment is consistent with Qwest's strategy to identify projects that will enable us to deploy fiber-to-the-home in an economically sensible manner," said Scott Simanson, Qwest vice president and general manager in Arizona. "Thanks to the partnership between Qwest and Toll Brothers, Windgate Ranch residents will have access to the most advanced communications services available today."
Qwest offers a unique and powerful combination of voice and data solutions for businesses, government agencies and consumers - locally and throughout the country. Customers coast to coast are turning to Qwest's industry-leading national fiber optic network and its Spirit of Service for quality products and superior customer experience.
