The Qwest Foundation Announces Grant to the Beacon Hill International School PTA
SEATTLE, Sept. 17, 2008 — The Qwest Foundation is pleased to announce that the Beacon Hill International School PTA is the recipient of a $1,250 grant. The donation will be used to fund the school’s Historian in Residence program, “Bring History to Life,” for the 2008/09 academic year. The program aligns with the school’s social studies curriculum and is a key component to achieving success as a newly designated international school.
“Our goal is to ensure that our students become global citizens who understand themselves in relation to the larger international community that surrounds us,” said Angela Castaneda, Beacon Hill International School PTA co-president. “This program will provide teaching strategies and activities that bridge language and culture gaps and bring the subject matter alive.”
“The Qwest Foundation applauds Beacon Hill International School as it breaks new ground and helps set the standard as an international school,” said Kirk Nelson, Qwest Washington president. “We are excited to support the Historian in Residence program and look forward to seeing how it will benefit children for years to come.”
Beacon Hill is now the second international elementary school in Seattle, joining the John Stanford International School. The international program integrates global perspectives into the curriculum, stressing multicultural literature, world economics and global health as well as arts, music, dance and drama from around the world.
