Survey Reveals How Consumers Use Their Wireless Minutes

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- This holiday season, EMBARQ(TM) wireless customers have more than 44,600 reasons to be satisfied with their carrier. All December long, EMBARQ is giving its wireless customers unlimited wireless calling to help them connect with friends and family.


That is more than 44,600 minutes to call an old college roommate, a distant relative or the first love that got away. Thousands of minutes at no extra charge will come in handy when the plane is stuck on the runway five hours after boarding or when assembling the kids' gifts turns into 120 minutes on the phone with the toy product hotline.

EMBARQ surveyed 1,000 Americans and asked how they would use unlimited wireless minutes this December to spread cheer and in some cases just survive the holiday hubub.

-- The search for the perfect gift can be next to impossible, but with unlimited wireless minutes, a second opinion is just a phone call away! Three in ten (30%) respondents would call their significant other for help finding the perfect gift, while 23 percent say they would call their best friend and 17 percent would call their mom.
-- Men value the opinion of their special someone a lot more than their female counterparts do when holiday shopping. Four in ten (40%) male respondents would call their significant other for gift ideas compared with just 23 percent of women who would do the same.
-- With unlimited minutes, wireless users are ready for a blast from the past. Almost six in ten (59%) would reach out and call a friend they have lost touch with to wish them a 'Happy Holiday'.
-- The price for catching up with family and friends is usually a high December phone bill, but not for EMBARQ wireless customers! So who is everyone calling? Almost one third (31%) of people talk to their distant relatives the most during the holidays, while 22 percent say they call their children the most and 18 percent say it is their best friends.
-- Nearly one third (29%) of wireless users change their ringtone to a holiday jingle. Almost half (45%) opt for the classic "Jingle Bells" tune followed by "Joy to the World" (16%) and "Silent Night" (12%).
