State Board of Equalization approves sales tax refund plan for CenturyLink

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Wyoming State Board of Equalization has approved a plan for CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) to refund sales tax billed to its customers with local telephone service in former Qwest areas in Wyoming during the period of February 2003 through March 2006. The refund covers sales taxes billed on the Federal Access Charge related to local service during the period when there was a dispute as to whether this charge was subject to Wyoming sales tax.

Current CenturyLink customers in the areas covered by this refund plan will automatically receive a refund in the form of an 80 percent reduction in the sales tax applied to their current bill. The reduction will begin on the May 2012 bill and will continue for 12 months until the targeted refund amount is returned to customers. Current customers covered by the refund plan will see a message on their bills explaining the reduction.

Former Qwest customers in Wyoming who had local telephone service from February 2003 through March 2006 that are not current customers of CenturyLink may contact the company for a refund. Residential customers may choose to receive a standard refund of $13.10 per residential access line. Business customers may choose to receive a standard refund of $18.85 per standard business access line. Residential and business customers may also request a refund based on their specific account if they believe the standard refund does not reflect the services they purchased.

Former customers can contact CenturyLink to request a refund by calling 877-417-3970.
