SAVVIS Completes Phase I of Content Delivery Network (CDN) Service Expansion

ST. LOUIS – April 17, 2006 – As part of a comprehensive plan to meet rapidly increasing customer demand both in the U.S. and abroad, SAVVIS, Inc. (NASDAQ:SVVS), a leading global provider of managed and outsourced IT services, today announced that it has completed Phase I of a multi-million dollar investment in technology and capacity expansion for its Content Delivery Network (CDN) service delivery architecture.

SAVVIS’ global CDN and patented traffic management technology is utilized by customers to optimize the performance of their web-based applications and streaming media. SAVVIS’ Content Delivery Services leverage both the SAVVIS IP transport network and service partner networks to provide industry-leading global reach, performance, and reliability.

Phase I expansions focus on significant enhancements to SAVVIS’ streaming platform and caching network. These include increased capacity on the existing servers and storage, a larger number of supported formats for on-demand and live streaming services and significant speed and performance enhancements resulting from expanded deployment of AMD Opteron™ processors.

Customer benefits are two-fold: 1) The increased server and storage capacity in streaming and caching systems facilitate customer growth while proven technologies improve speed and performance; 2) SAVVIS’ ability to rapidly deploy CDN as a utility service is enhanced. This can easily be layered on as part of other managed IT services SAVVIS offers, such as managed hosting and digital content creation and collaboration services.

Enhanced Streaming Platform
Streaming platform enhancements feature new server node cluster deployments in the US and abroad with new customers being deployed on the new platform starting April 15, 2006. The new server configurations are more powerful at an individual unit level, allowing for increased performance and faster processing. The new storage subsystem has an increase of 650% over the existing system’s capacity allowing for more efficient and faster operational and customer access and management.

SAVVIS’ streaming platform now supports Real Networks Helix and Macromedia Flash Media Server applications, and these formats will be available in both On-Demand Streaming and Live Streaming. SAVVIS expects live streaming support for Windows, RealAudio, RealVideo, QuickTime, MP3, MPEG-4, Macromedia Flash, and Flash Streaming will be available in the near future. Phase II plans call for new platform features such as automated provisioning and content and rights management, along with enhancements to the customer portal and reporting.

Caching Network Expansion
SAVVIS has significantly expanded its CDN caching network with new server storage subsystems providing an increase of 400% over the previous systems capacity. This allows for increased transactional performance in addition to higher throughput while alleviating capacity constraints on the existing servers and storage. Other important improvements include SSL enhancements that enable secure and non-secure caching traffic, and customer portal enhancements that include improved reporting features providing better visibility into traffic flow. Phase II plans call for additional capacity expansion of the CDN caching network that will effectively double SAVVIS’ total caching network capacity.

By coupling the SAVVIS’ CDN offering with SAVVIS’ IT utility and content management services, customers can streamline their asset management and distribution processes through one secure workflow. This on-demand business model features the virtual allocation of software, asset management, network, storage, and distribution elements while leveraging AMD64’s virtual capabilities at the microprocessor level. The net gain in efficiencies throughout each layer of the solution translates directly to service improvements for SAVVIS CDN customers and their users while reducing complexity associated with their workflows.

“SAVVIS’ investment in expanding our content delivery network architecture is a direct result of rapidly growing customer demand,” said Vince DiMemmo, Senior Vice President, Product and Marketing for SAVVIS. “Key to this is our ability to integrate a unique combination of our managed IT services with our global IT infrastructure and advanced operational systems. This is enabling content delivery network services to evolve from simple caching and streaming into a new model that is enabling businesses of all sizes to capitalize on the monetization of digital content that is now available on a global scale.”
