Qwest Teams with Mesa Public Schools to Bring Multi-Media Instruction to Classrooms

DENVER, OCTOBER 3, 2005 ? Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) today announced that it has won a new, $15 million five-year agreement with Mesa Unified School District ? the largest school district in Arizona. Qwest will provide Mesa Public Schools with high-bandwidth data networking services that will enable the schools to use multi-media instructional applications such as video conferencing and virtual reality in classrooms. One exciting example of how Mesa Public Schools will use the Qwest solution is by partnering with a teaching hospital to allow students to attend an operating room via virtual reality.

The largest deployment of its kind in the nation, Mesa Public Schools is using metro optical Ethernet connections to 74 locations throughout the school district. Qwest metro optical Ethernet provides speeds up to 1 gigabit per second so the schools can use the connections for bandwidth-intensive activities, such as real-time video conferencing.
