Qwest Rewards Innovative Wyoming Teachers Who Improve Education With $25,000 Grant

DENVER, Dec. 14, 2006 - The Qwest Foundation and the WyomingDepartment of Education today announced a landmark plan - the Qwest Teachersand Technology grant program - to offer teachers vital technology for theirclassrooms. Qwest is providing a $25,000 donation to be awarded to threerecipients to help fund innovative technology grants so that Wyoming teacherscan improve education in the classroom.

"The advancement of technology in the classroom is key to continuouslyimproving our local and national education system," said Michael Ceballos,Qwest's Wyoming state president. "The Qwest Teachers and Technology grantprogram is a unique opportunity for educators to find innovative ways to bringtechnology into the classroom and better prepare students to succeed."

"Wyoming is very fortunate to have such a generous partner in Qwest,who understands the importance of supporting our teachers and their needs fortechnology," Wyoming State Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. JimMcBride said. "In order to ensure our students are prepared for the worldof tomorrow, our teachers need to have access to the best resources available.These grants will provide that access."

The grants will be awarded to teachers through a competitive process that willbe administered by the Wyoming Department of Education. Educators will be ableto submit applications for the Qwest Teachers and Technology grants beginningat: The Web site will provide specific instructionson the grant process, including a timeline for application dates. The grantapplication deadline is Jan. 31, 2007.

The funds may be used to purchase supplies or to support professional developmentneeds; however, funds may not be used to pay salaries or stipends.

The objectives of the program are to improve student achievement through theuse of today's technology; build a real-world team problem-solving environment;and set the groundwork for future technology integration projects.
