Qwest Partners with APS and Innovate-Educate NM to offer $75,000 Technology Grants to teachers across NM

[ALBUQUERQUE, NM]– Albuquerque Public Schools and Innovate-Educate NM in partnership with NMSTE (New Mexico’s ISTE Chapter) announced that applications open today for the Qwest Teachers and Technology grant program.  Grant applications will be accepted through Oct. 31.

Qwest is providing a $75,000 donation that will help fund innovative technology so that individual teachers across the state can improve education in the classroom. The grant will be divided between APS, which will receive $50,000, and Innovate-Educate, which will receive $25,000. Teachers can access applications at

The purpose of the Qwest Teachers and Technology grant program is to recognize and reward public school teachers who use innovative technology in the classroom to improve the educational experience for students.

“The Qwest Foundation continues to be dedicated to helping students and teachers throughout New Mexico,” said Loretta A. Armenta, Qwest’s president for New Mexico. “The Qwest Teachers and Technology grant program is designed to make a teacher’s innovative application of technology in the classroom a reality in order to better prepare New Mexican students to contribute to and exceed within today’s competitive job market.”

The grants will be awarded to teachers through a competitive grant process. Educators will find more information for the Qwest Teachers and Technology grants at The web site provides specific instructions on the grant process. The deadline to receive applications for both APS and Innovate-Educate is Oct. 31, 2009.

“Given the current economy, Qwest New Mexico’s $75,000 to teachers is an impressive demonstration of its commitment to New Mexico,” said APS Superintendent Winston Brooks. “Quite often teachers find a significant gap between innovative ideas and their ability to bring those concepts to their students – Qwest generous donation helps bridge that gap.”

Jamai Blivin, executive director of Innovate-Educate NM, recognizes Qwest’s partnership as key to advancing innovation in education, “Innovate-Educate is working strategically with the lead technology companies in the U.S. to align, coordinate and collaborate their initiatives in advancing partnerships for education.  Qwest’s leadership role in New Mexico is an example of this collaboration to support the innovation in the classrooms across New Mexico.  We know that teachers will be excited about the opportunity to apply for these grants and look forward to sharing the successes impacting students in the classroom.  This year we are partnering with New Mexico’s ISTE affiliate chapter to make sure the applications reach as many teachers as possible.”
