Qwest Communications and South Dakota Department of Education to Award Teachers and Technology Grants

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Oct. 18, 2010 &mdand the South Dakota Department of Education announced today that they will award $25,000 to South Dakota public school teachers through the Qwest Teachers and Technology grant program.

Now in its fourth year in South Dakota, the Qwest Foundation Teachers and Technology grant program recognizes teachers who are finding innovative ways to integrate technology into their curriculum and teaching practices to improve student achievement. 

"There's so much we can do with technology in the classroom, and teachers who are able tthe learning experience for their students," said South Dakota Secretary of Education Tom Oster. "We're pleased to partner with Qwest to help teachers put their technology-related ideas into action."

The Qwest Teachers and Technology grants will be awarded to teachers through a competitive process administered by the South Dakota Department of Education. Pre-K through 12th-grade teachers with ideas to use technology in the classroom to engage students, enhance student performance, and prepare them for life in a technologically advanced world, are eligible to apply.

“The Teachers and Technology grant program is a great opportunity for teachers to transform their classrooms.” said Max Phillips, Qwest president for South Dakota. "I'm proud that over four years we will have awarded $100,000 to teachers in South Dakota."
