SALT LAKE CITY, February 14, 2011- Qwest Communications and its employees raised more than $80,000 to invest in United Way of Salt Lake’s education initiatives. Qwest dollars provide key funding for seven Community Learning Centers throughout Salt Lake, Summit, and Davis Counties.
“Qwest Foundation is proud to partner with the United Way to help solve problems facing our communities,” said Jerry Fenn, Qwest president for Utah. “This is one of many ways that our employees and the company itself invests in our great State. Our employees also volunteer thousands of hours in various communities throughout Utah.”
In addition to pledging payroll deductions, Qwest employees held various special events including pancake breakfasts, opportunity drawings, BBQs and United Way lunches to rally support for United Way of Salt Lake.

Community Learning Centers combine the academics of a traditional school with a wide range of important services, supports, and opportunities to promote children's learning and development. Long-term partnerships with school personnel, students, parents, and community agencies are an integral part of the programs. Children and their families are offered support and a wide range of opportunities before, during, and after school. Seven Community Learning Centers are currently offering more than 90 different programs from English language and GED classes to gang prevention and dance classes.
