Qwest Communications Employees Give Generously to United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona

TUCSON, AZ (February 15, 2011)  Qwest Communications and its employees raised more than $24,000 to benefit United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona during the 2010-2011 campaign year, marking more than 50 years that Qwest employees have participated in the United Way’s annual campaign.   The Qwest Foundation matched the employee donations dollar for dollar, and the total gift from Qwest will be $50,000.

“Qwest is proud to partner with the United Way to provide needed assistance throughout Arizona,” said Jim Campbell, Qwest president for Arizona. “Our employees and our company remain committed to the state of Arizona and its future. We will continue to give our time and talent, as represented by the thousands of hours our employees have invested in various communities across Arizona.”

In addition to pledging payroll deductions, Arizona Qwest employees held various special events including basket raffles, hamburger sales, breakfast burrito offers and United Way lunches to rally United Way donations across the state.

“We are grateful to Qwest employees for their continued leadership and commitment to our community,” said Tony Penn, President and CEO of United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona.  “It is because of the committed partners like Qwest, who live and work in Southern Arizona,  that allow us to  provide not only short-term, immediate help to people in need—but also to achieve lasting changes that will ensure higher graduation rates, better income stability and healthier lifestyles for all.”

Penn also noted that the donation of $50,000 was more than double what Qwest raised just two years ago.  “Qwest and its employees should be truly commended for their increased giving, especially in these economic times in which we live.”
