Jefferson County School District Gets "Moe" Data Networking Services in Multimillion-Dollar Agreement with Qwest

DENVER, Feb. 27, 2008 — Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE:Q) today announced it has won a new 10-year, $16 million-dollar contract with the Jefferson County School District to provide high-bandwidth data networking and Internet services to meet the ever-growing technology needs of students.

The Jefferson County School District will connect 107 schools using Qwest Metro Optical Ethernet (QMOE) services, providing the students, teachers and staff of each school with Internet speeds up to 100 Megabits per second (Mbps). This upgrade will allow the district to successfully implement a wide variety of critical 21st century e-learning initiatives for students that include online courses, virtual schools, online testing/assessment programs and Internet-based professional development for staff.
“This agreement with Qwest represents just one piece of the foundation of the Jefferson County School District’s technology plan,” said Brett Miller, executive director of infrastructure services, Jefferson County School District. “Our goal is to be prepared for, and have the capacity to support, instructional initiatives to enrich 21st century student learning and achievement using advanced technology.”
The Jefferson County School District began implementing QMOE approximately two years ago to its 17 high schools and 19 middle schools, providing broadband speeds up to 100 Mbps to each school.
“The Jefferson County School District serves 85,000 Colorado students at 148 schools, and is dedicated to providing kids a bright future and a superior education,” said Tom Richards, executive vice president, Qwest Business Markets Group. “This strategic implementation of next-generation technology from Qwest will enhance the quality of education today and prepare schools for future growth so the district will remain a leader in classroom technology.”
QMOE service combines the power of Ethernet and optical technologies across metropolitan area networks to provide scalable and secure bandwidth at a low relative cost. QMOE service is available in 32 national markets with bandwidth profiles ranging from 5 Mbps to 1 Gigabit per second. Qwest backs its products and services with a Quality of Service (QoS) commitment that gives customers assurance of application, integrity and performance in their network.
