EMBARQ Works With YouTube(TM) to Bring Customer Service to the Customer

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EMBARQ(R) customers no longer have to call the customer service number to get all of their questions answered; now they can just go to YouTube. EMBARQ is going where its customers are with the launch of the YouTube Channel, featuring instructional videos to help answer some of its top customer service inquiries.

"The YouTube Channel is another way for us to show our customers that we are here for them," said Dan Alcazar, EMBARQ(R) Consumer Marketing Officer. "From this site, we can use videos to provide them with step-by-step instructions while actively listening and responding to their questions and concerns."

Customers can visit the channel at to watch how-to videos on a variety of topics such as how to install High-Speed Internet, set up an EMBARQ(R) account and use EMBARQ(R) e-mail. They can also see product demonstration videos for new popular products and services like EMBARQ(R) eGo(SM), a cordless home phone with Internet-powered features, and soon see clips featuring EMBARQ(R) RescueIT(SM), a new computer support service.

"More people are watching online video than ever before, but dial-up Internet connections often make the process frustrating and tedious because of its slower speed," said Alcazar.

According to a 2008 study from Nielsen's NetViews and NetRatings, an estimated 119 million unique visitors watched 7.5 billion video streams online during the month of May alone. A 2007 study by Pew Internet & American Life Project found that 66 percent of people with high-speed connections at home watched online video, while only 39 percent of dial-up users did.

EMBARQ is helping launch its brand channel with the 48 Seconds Video Contest. Forty-eight seconds is the amount of extra time it takes to download an average web page with dial-up Internet as opposed to EMBARQ(R) High-Speed Internet -- visit for further details on this comparison. Instead of wasting all those seconds, EMBARQ wants to see what you can do, learn, perform or create with that time, so it has launched the EMBARQ(R) 48 Seconds Video Contest.

Can you tell your life story, paint a replica of the Mona Lisa on your fingernail, read a book from cover to cover, choreograph a dance routine or come up with a faster way to make a grilled cheese sandwich?

Whatever it is that you can master in 48 seconds, video tape it, go to and upload your video. The person whose video receives the most votes wins $5,000 and a year of free EMBARQ(R) High-Speed Internet. The first 50 people to upload a qualifying video will win $50, and the five video finalists win a Flip Video Ultra Camcorder by Pure Digital.
