EMBARQ(TM) MPLS VPN Takes Networks to MVP Status

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., May 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ask business owners what they want from a network, and they will tell you they seek the same qualities a football coach wants from a good quarterback: reliability, flexibility and security.

Businesses demand more today from their networks, which must support evolving applications, offer flexibility and scalability, and provide a competitive advantage. With today's announcement of the availability of EMBARQ(TM) MPLS VPN, the company said it built the product around those attributes. Think of it as a quarterback for the network.

EMBARQ(TM) MPLS VPN is the company's Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) service based on Multiprotocol Label Switching, or MPLS. It provides "any-to-any" connectivity and reduces costs by eliminating the need for multiple private circuits, according to Susan Sarna, vice president - business marketing and product management.

"MPLS VPN offers a customer-tailored solution that supports multiple protocols and access options, and it can include network management," Sarna said. "We offer businesses impressive speed and scalability, whether they are connecting a few or few hundred sites, and the ability to extend advanced IP applications network-wide."

The service enhances network management with in-network routing, boosting security and service quality for multimedia streaming applications like Voice over IP and video.

"We have knocked down the barriers formerly faced by businesses whose networks span large geographic areas that may be served by more than one communications provider," Sarna said. "Just as coaches count on the quarterback to run their plays, adapting as necessary, businesses can expect MPLS VPN to handle whatever the network is running."

The portfolio offers multiple customer options ranging from the simplicity of a port-only offering to the unmatched flexibility of Fully Managed Solution Bundles and unbundled port, access, router and maintenance combinations. MPLS VPN can be used to deliver any type of network traffic, and the packages are scalable to fit any customer's needs.

Coming on the two-year anniversary of EMBARQ's emergence as a standalone company, the MPLS VPN launch also underscores the commitment to service and innovation embodied in the new EMBARQ(TM) Business sub-brand, Sarna said.

"We want to demonstrate that commitment daily to our customers, whether they consider themselves small business, mid-size or enterprise in scope," she said. "MPLS VPN helps take EMBARQ(TM) Business to the next level in a very competitive marketplace."
