CenturyLink receives grant to expand High-Speed Internet service to three counties in North Carolina

WAKE FOREST, N.C. – As part of its ongoing commitment to its customers in North Carolina, CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL), has expanded its High-Speed Internet (HSI) services in Johnston, Lenoir and Rockingham Counties with the Internet-enablement of 2,200 new lines in these areas. This expansion is funded in part by a competitive matching grant from the North Carolina Department of Commerce, part of the General Assembly’s balanced budget, designated for areas that have limited to no broadband availability because service may be cost prohibitive to provide.

“CenturyLink is focused on expanding broadband availability and increasing connectivity speeds to customers in the more rural areas of North Carolina,” said Kevin McCarter, CenturyLink’s vice president and general manager for central and eastern North Carolina. “This is a great example of public/private partnerships accomplishing real and meaningful results that benefit the people of North Carolina.”

“We appreciate Senator David Rouzer’s work in getting the funds allocated to the Department of Commerce for this purpose,” said Bill Hanchey, vice president for regulatory and legislative affairs for CenturyLink’s Eastern Region.

Depending on a customer’s location, speeds of up to 3 to 25 Mbps will be available. Customers can check service availability in their area and order service by calling CenturyLink at 919-552-0900 to speak with a CenturyLink representative, or by visiting
